Dump station closed or broken — backup checklist

It happens: locked lid, no water, card reader dead, seasonal closure, or a rebuild that removed the bay. Use this sequence instead of improvising on a residential sewer cleanout you do not own.

Do this in order

Gear that prevents a second failure

Category suggestions only — no affiliate tracking IDs on this build. Buy wherever you already trust.

Sewer hose + elbow

Clear elbow helps you see flow. Carry a spare bayonet fitting; travel-center threads vary.

Disposable gloves + hose rinse bottle

When the spigot is dead (common complaint at some Flying J lanes), a filled rinse jug still lets you clear the hose.

Water pressure regulator

If you do find a working potable tap later, protect your RV plumbing — park water pressure can be high.

Tank treatment / sensors

After a delayed dump, treatment helps odor; sensor cleaners are optional but useful if you wait overnight.

Long gloves / disinfect wipes

Broken stations are messier. Wipe fittings before they go back in the bay.

Printed backup list

Cell coverage dies in canyons. Keep two Phoenix numbers and one corridor park number on paper.

What not to do

Do not dump on the ground, into storm drains, or into a home sewer cleanout you do not have explicit permission to use. Illegal dumping fines are real, and it contaminates washes that feed desert water systems.
